Milling is the machining process in which the removal of metal takes place due to the cutting action of a rotating milling cutter.In a milling machine, the cutter is rotating due to workpiece is fed against it.This machine can hold more than one tool at a time. The present analytical approach leads to a three-dimensional cutting force model for end milling operations. Calculated and experimental results extracted from the literature are compared for several operations: full immersion, up-milling and down-milling and for different cutting conditions.
The milling model used here was derived by Insperger et al. [14]. Here, the specific cutting force profiles, stability charts, and chatter frequency diagrams are produced for up-milling and down-milling cases for one and four cutting teeth and 25 to 100 % immersion levels.
