About a year ago, I purchased a used and somewhat neglected Harbor Freight 44142 3 in 1 machine. After setting it up and using it for a few months, I noticed that the lathe motor would get hot to the touch after about 10 minutes of use, and extremely hot after about 15 minutes of use.

I'm looking for opinions on the Chinese-made Multipurpose metal machine-tool from Harbor Freight. They have more than one version. The SKU is 31316 and it is Labeled Harbor Freight Made in China Bench Lathe. I found a couple of mill heads on ebay but they mount in the middle of the machine. The one in the pict mounts to left side. I could probaly make the ones I found on ebay work, but I would have to drill holes in the casting to bolt it on.

I can suggest some switches from Amazon and show how to wire it. I would plan on running this machine on 220/240 volts, because of the current draw. -Mark. OR if you want to just get it running quickly in one direction with a simple toggle switch we could do that instead. Reverse is less useful on a mill than a lathe.

Since you say it's a mill/lathe combo, I would assume that the spindle taper refers to the lathe spindle. #3 Morse is very likely the taper if you were installing a center for turning between centers. It sucks if the mill spindle is #2 Morse taper. That's …

Beside reducing wear and tear on your arm and the boredom of turning and turning and turning a wheel, a power feed can produce a better finish on your parts because it moves the table at a more uniform speed than you probably can.
