A DIY power draw bar seemed like a good project to use the mill for, so I started formulating a plan. Most if not all of the DIY and power drawbars I saw were based on pneumatic impact drivers. Most also used pneumatic cylinders to lower the driver onto the drawbar hex and to actuate the driver.

Same principle . Machine your drawbar thread an extra inch or so . Add that length to the rod end . Slip on a 1" spacer on top . When your threads wear, part the worn threads off and reduce your top spacer accordingly . Use a good grade of steel and follow the 1.5x diameter rule of thumb .

I use the brake on the Webb Mill to hold the spindle from moving when tightening or loosening a collet. I tighten them up until I can feel that the collet has seated nicely. Another inch or so on the wrench and I'm done. To remove, I lock the spindle and use a dead-fall hammer to tap the top of the drawbar. Works for me.

At my last job, we had an old Index 645 vertical mill, very nice machine BTW, and it had this feature. The drawbar had a shoulder on it, and there was a threaded retainer on the top of the spindle which kept the drawbar from backing out.

Drawbar has 7/16"-20 right hand thread and should be tightened by hand with normal amount of pressure using wrench furnished with machine. To loosen collet, back off drawbar and if collet does not open immediately, give knob on top of drawbar a slight tap. Spindle has non-sticking taper and collet should release readily. M-450 2-9
Stan, my mill has an R-8 spindle and I have a fair amount of tooling for it and that's why I chose to go the power drawbar route. I saw that guys plans and the pics of his drawbar look a little rough around the edges so I'm just going to make my own from what I can easily get my hands on.
