I was on my last belt a while ago when the seam failed, I used contact cemet and the old strip of cloth, worked well, still on the belt sander now. Have since stocked back up on belts, but the 'old' one is still working fine. cleaned the old glue off as well as I could with thinner first. ken.

Sanding belt adhesive. There are no specific adhesives on the market that are used for sanding belts. The best type of adhesive to use would be industrial strength, such as builder's adhesive, or Gorilla glue (glue for wood) will hold.Remember you need a glue that can withstand heat as your belt sander tends to get hot when used.

Hi gang, Not really sure if this is the place to post this question, so if the mods want to move it, please do. I have four types of belt sanders, one 6"x48" Craftsman, one 1"x42" Delta, one 3/4"x21" air sander, & one 3"x24" Rockwell belt sander, for each of which I have purchased belts.
The only issue I can see with that is the possibility that the glue holding the abrasive might not have sufficient shear strength to resist the tension on the belt. That does get me wondering, though, what kind of glue is used to hold the grit to the belt and might that be removable through chemical or mechanical means.

Here is the process I use. 1. Cut the ends of the sandpaper under 30 degrees. 2. Try to remove the grain with a piece of glass and with a woodworking chisel and leave only paper in both sides. 3. Connect the ends with a Polyurerthan glue. Ponal PU construct works for me and it's a very strong and elastic glue. 4.
