Ball nose end mills are cutting tools used in milling applications such as profile milling, tracer milling, face milling, and plunging. Unlike conventional drill bits, end mills have cutting teeth at the sides and tip of the mill.Ball nose end mills or ball end cutters are constructed with a round cutting end and center cutting edges used for milling contoured surfaces, slotting, and pocketing.
A ball end milling cutter is also known as a "ball nose mill". The end of this tool is ground with a full radius equal to half of the tool diameter, and the edges are center cutting. They can be single end or double end and they can be made from solid carbide or various compositions of high speed steel.

I use a 2-flute ball nose end mill for drilling into ABS all the time, but I would be cautious in other materials. In that parts case, it was being run on my Fadal, which takes about 15 seconds to change tools.
